AI Call Answering and Booking for Home Services and Trades

In trades, the business that answers first usually gets the job. That is a hard standard to hit when your crews are on roofs, under sinks and in crawl spaces, and the phone rings hardest exactly when nobody can reach it. Zemora voice agents answer every call, qualify the job, and book it into the schedule – including at 7pm on a Sunday.

The problem

A missed call is not a missed lead, it is a lost job

Someone with a leak calls three plumbers. The first to pick up books the work; the other two get a voicemail they return two hours later to a customer who has already sorted it. There is no partial credit and no nurture sequence that recovers it.

The maths is unforgiving because a single job is worth hundreds or thousands, not a fraction of a pipeline. A business missing four calls a day is not losing four leads – it is losing most of a week of revenue every month, and it usually does not know the number because missed calls do not appear on a report anyone reads.

Answering

Every call answered, including the ones nobody is there for

The agent answers immediately – during a job, during a drive, after hours and at weekends. For most trades businesses the after-hours slice is the biggest single unclaimed segment: emergency calls arrive at the worst times and go to voicemail, and an emergency caller does not leave a message, they call the next number.

Where a call genuinely is an emergency, the agent identifies it and routes to your on-call number rather than booking it for Tuesday. That distinction is defined by you during pilot design: burst pipe and no heat in winter are emergencies, a dripping tap is not.

Qualification

Qualifying a job before a truck is committed

The wrong job booked is worse than the job not booked – it costs a slot and a drive.

Job type

What the work actually is, in enough detail to know whether you do it. A roofer who does not do flat commercial roofs should not have that on the schedule.

Service area

The address, checked against where you actually travel. Booking a job ninety minutes outside your radius costs a day and produces a bad review when you cancel.

Urgency

Emergency, this week, or planning ahead. This decides routing and it decides whether the caller is comparing quotes or needs someone now.

Property and access

Residential or commercial, owner or tenant, and access constraints – the details that decide whether the crew arrives with the right equipment.

Booking

Booked into the schedule during the call

The agent offers real availability and books the job while the customer is on the phone. That is the whole point: a callback promise is where trades leads die, because in the twenty minutes before anyone rings back the customer has called two competitors.

Confirmations and reminders run over SMS on the same contact record, which is also where reschedules get handled – “can you come Thursday instead” is answered by the agent rather than becoming a voicemail for whoever runs the office.

Outbound

Quote follow-up and seasonal work

Quotes sent and never chased are the second-largest leak in most trades businesses. A quote follow-up sequence asks whether the customer has decided, answers the obvious objection, and books the work or closes the record with a reason.

Seasonal reactivation works the same way – furnace servicing before winter, gutter clearing in autumn, AC checks before summer – run against your existing customer list rather than bought leads. That is qualification applied to people who have already paid you once, which is the cheapest work available to a trades business.
